4. Mortal Kombat (South Korea)

The well-known fighting game franchise has always been controversial due to its extreme levels of violence, in particular the game’s infamous “Fatality” moves which let players finish off enemies in particularly violent and gruesome ways. And the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot game went a step further and added the new sadistic “X-ray” moves, which showed bone-crunching violence and the breaking of body parts in glorious slow motion…

Of course, one could argue these video games are just a harmless diversion and that they won’t turn people into violent sociopaths, but the South Korean censors did not agree with this… Actually, they found the game’s violence and cruelty a bit too much for gamers and banned the game in the country, with Mortal Kombat not being available to play in South Korea to this date.
