Many were disappointed when Nintendo announced that their upcoming console, codenamed ‘NX’ won’t be released until 2016 at the earliest. Because their current flagship, the Wii U has been something of a disappointment for the Japanese giant – it’s their worst performing console in terms of sales since the Gamecube, according to Wikipedia. This is a pity, considering how strong the Wii U’s game lineup is – it arguably had the best games of 2015, with the likes of Mario Kart 8 and Bayonetta 2 being loved by gamers worldwide.

But still, the NX needs to be something special if Nintendo wants to recapture the console crown and it’s hardware specs need to be strong enough so that third-party titles like Assassin’s Creed can be played on the console. After all, not being able to play the big video game franchises on the Wii U has surely done Nintendo’s console no favours, and gamers this generation have flocked to the Xbox One and PS4, with Sony’s machine being firmly in the lead. But never count Nintendo out – their DS handheld sold more than 150 million units, after all – and they can surely deliver with their upcoming NX.
