Activision CEO puts a positive spin on Infinite Warfare YouTube dislikes

It seems that YouTube users and Call of Duty fans did not appreciate the recent Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer that much, and it’s currently one of the most disliked videos on YouTube right now.

The number of dislikes was so alarming (and they have now shockingly passed the 1 million mark at the time of writing) that Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg felt obliged to comment on the matter, putting a positive spin on things as any good CEO would.

For starters, Hirshberg said that “you gotta love the passion of gamers”.

And suggesting that maybe the fact that Call of Duty fans were not in the mood for a game with a sci-fi setting, Hirshberg added that “we know there are people in our community who are nostalgic for the boots on the ground-style gameplay; that’s why we made Modern Warfare Remastered”.

Although perhaps it’s not just Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s jump to space and Halo-like setting that are provoking such a negative reaction from gamers, but the fact that they won’t be able to buy the upcoming Modern Warfare Remastered video game by itself, but together with Infinite Warfare in a bundle.

Some Call of Duty fans did not like the fact that Modern Warfare Remastered is not available on its own, but rather bundled with Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

But the truth is that in the end, gamers will vote with their wallets, and the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare Legacy Edition is one of the top-selling games on Amazon UK right now, and is likely to end up being one of the year’s best-selling video games, as earlier Call of Duty entries have been.

Acknowledging this, Activision’s CEO Eric Hirshberg also added that “while of course we see the passionate opinions on line, we also look at other measurements and the fact is—while it’s very early—pre-orders are off to a very strong start”.

And the fact that the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare trailer is getting so much attention on YouTube means that the franchise is still relevant and has a huge following worldwide, meaning that for better or worse, we’ll still be getting more Call of Duty video games for years to come.
