Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare E3 2016 gameplay video shows massive space battle

Even if some Call of Duty fans were less than thrilled by the sci-fi space setting of the upcoming Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the truth is that Activision’s latest trailer for the game certainly looks stunning.

Unlike in the earlier reveal trailer, in this E3 video  we get to see a sizeable chunk of one of the game’s missions, while also noticing that the game takes a tip or two from Bioware’s Mass Effect series.

The video kicks off in the game’s base of operations, with players choosing the next mission to tackle on a galactic map similar to the one in the Mass Effect games. The player character then boards a spaceship and heads off to space, engaging in space combat with enemies in a dogfighting sequence that admittedly looks pretty cool, even by Call of Duty’s standards…

Things heat up when we see the player character exit the spaceship, with things looking more like a typical Call of Duty shooting sequence (but in space though, like we saw in 2013’s Call of Duty: Ghosts). In this first-person shooting sequence players will have access to what looks like a grappling hook, letting them reach platforms and other structures quickly, making navigation easier in the game’s vast open space.

What really looks great in this video though is the boarding of the enemy capital ship, and how objects and people in the ship’s interior are sucked into space when an explosive is detonated on one of the spaceship’s windows, shattering it. The same thing happens when the player opens the spaceship’s hangar door close to the mission’s end, with all sorts of objects (including vehicles) being pulled into space when a chamber is depressurized, making for one spectacular action sequence. We also see that players will have access to some form of “anti-gravity” weapon or special power, which causes enemies to float in the air helplessly like in the Mass Effect games, making for easy targets…

All in all, and despite Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare getting so much negative publicity before its release, and the game’s trailer being one of YouTube’s most disliked ever, it is clear judging by this E3 gameplay video that this could still turn out to be one of the best Call of Duty games to date when its released this November.

Note: Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will be released on November 4, 2016. Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
