Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare’s live action trailer makes fun of controversy

Now that the release date of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is just around the corner, Activision has released a new trailer to catch player’s attention and help promote the game… But it’s not that a new Call of Duty game needs much in the way of advertising though, as the franchise has a legion of followers worldwide, and this is one of the most successful video game series of all time.

This hasn’t stopped Activision from releasing a spectacular live action trailer for the game, and one which features American celebrities like Olympic gold winner and ace swimmer Michael Phelps and also comedian Danny McBride.

At one point in the trailer, we see that one TV watcher fed up with the barrage of bad news tells his peers “screw it, let’s go to space”, and then the trailer moves to a spectacular sci-fi action sequence. It’s all a bit cheesy, but this trailer does have great production values, and in a way also makes fun of the controversy surrounding Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

This is because the game’s reveal trailer is currently one of YouTube’s most disliked videos of all time, and the reason for this is that many gamers have shown their dissatisfaction with Infinite Warfare’s sci-fi setting, while welcoming the World War I setting of competitors like Battlefield 1.

And even Activision’s CEO Eric Hirshberg had a few words to say about the matter, calling Call of Duty’s fans “passionate”, and also reminding them that this year players will be able to get their hands on the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare remaster too… But this has also been a point of controversy as the eagerly awaited remaster won’t be available standalone, but will come bundled with the Legacy and Deluxe editions of the game, which clearly isn’t to many players liking.

Call of Duty’s publisher Activision likely expects fans of the series to embrace Infinite Warfare’s sci-fi setting (and truth be told the game’s reveal trailer did look spectacular despite all the hate it got) and perhaps also pick up an edition of the game with the bundled-in remaster, and the line “screw it, let’s go to space” in the latest trailer for the game does seem to make fun of the controversy surrounding this latest Call of Duty game.

But still, none of this will matter if Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare of the Modern Warfare remaster are not up to scratch, so it would definitely be a good thing is both turned out to be great, making this a year to remember for Call of Duty fans.

Note: Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will be released on November 4, 2016. Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
