Call of Duty: WW2 PC beta – system requirements, dates and features

The console beta of Call of Duty: WWII took place last August, and although PC gamers were left out back then, this weekend it will be their turn to try out one of the most exciting upcoming releases of the year.

This is because Call of Duty: WWII’s PC beta will take place from September 29 (Friday) to October 2 (Monday). This will let you try the game’s multiplayer gameplay on a series of maps (no single player content here I am afraid). Thankfully, though, this will be an open beta so anyone who wishes can take part, and enjoy an advance preview of what could end up being one of 2017’s top video game hits, no doubt.

Of course, before jumping into the beta it’s worth checking that your PC meets the beta’s minimum specs, which developer Sledgehammer Games recently published on their website along with the recommended PC specifications (see below).

Regarding the recommended system requirements, we see the memory requirement is above average for this sort of game (12 GB vs the usual 8 GB) and that the processor requirement could be a bit steep for some too. This is because those running an AMD system will need a Ryzen 5 1600X CPU (a powerful six core processor which launched only a couple of months ago) in order to enjoy the beta at its best. A powerful Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics card or equivalent will also be needed to turn on the eye candy here too.

The remaining requirements are nothing out of this world though, and neither are the game’s minimum requirements. Actually, an Intel Core i3 processor paired with 8 GB of memory and 25 GB of disk space will suffice to run this Call of Duty: WWII multiplayer beta.

So, what’s included in this beta for PC games to enjoy? As was the case with last summer’s console beta, there will be several maps to try out this weekend. These are Gibraltar, Aachen, Ardennes Forest and the Pointe du Hoc maps. You can do this while playing as a soldier belonging to one of five divisions (Infantry, Airborne, Expeditionary, Mountain Division and Armoured). You will be able to try all these divisions throughout the course of the weekend, playing in one of four different multiplayer modes: Domination, Hardpoint, Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmation.

Everyone will start the beta at rank 1, although there’s a reason to want to progress (you will be able to reach rank 35 throughout the weekend), as this will allow you to unlock additional weapons and other goodies too.

This Call of Duty beta also has some PC-specific features that those with the right equipment will be able to enjoy, such as support for 4K resolution and ultra-wide monitors. Of course, an advantage PC gamers will be able to enjoy as usual is full support for mouse and keyboard controls, something that comes in handy in order to score those headshots in multiplayer games… There’s also controller support too, although those playing with a gamepad could find themselves at a disadvantage in this multiplayer beta, due to the high precision afforded by the mouse and keyboard controls.

Call of Duty: WWII’s dev Sledgehammer Games also boast on their website that there are other features coming to the PC version which won’t be available in the beta. These include HDR and multi-monitor support, amongst others. Also, bear in mind that the beta’s system requirements won’t be the same as those of the final game, actually Sledgehammer will be taking advantage of feedback garnered during the beta to fine-tune these prior to the game’s release this November.

So, this PC beta of Call of Duty: WWII is certainly something to look forward to then, while those eager to start playing on Friday can begin pre-loading now in order to enjoy the multiplayer side of this upcoming Call of Duty game.
