Civilization fans the world over were ecstatic last year when game developer Firaxis announced that a new Civilization game would be hitting shelves in October 2016.
This turned out to be one of the best entries in the franchise to date, and “taking one more turn” in order to conquer the world or win the space race was as enjoyable as ever in Civilization VI.
And it’s not like Firaxis’ latest game was lacking in features, as this latest Civilization entry was as complete as you can imagine at launch, also adding new innovative features to the series like the new city districts mechanic.
Nonetheless, Firaxis will be adding to the game next year with an expansion titled “Rise and Fall”, which adds several new features to the game which are likely to please any Civilization fanatic out there.
For starters, Rise and Fall makes alliances in the game more valuable, as this won’t just amount to a simple “non-interfere” pact as in the base game. For instance, when forming a scientific alliance with another civ you get research bonuses as long as such alliance holds.
Also, the game will boast new “historic moments” for your civilization, which will be highlighted throughout the game. An example of this could be being the first civ to navigate across the globe, or being the first to build a specific military unit, for instance.
Loyalty will also be an important game concept when you’re playing the Rise and Fall expansion, as cities with low loyalty can revolt or even flip alliances and join an enemy civilization, especially if that civ is enjoying a Golden Age as Firaxis explains on its website.
The Rise and Fall expansion also brings with it 8 new civilizations and 9 world leaders, each with their own personality and unique unit. Of course, given that Civilization VI is already brimming with features and is one of the most complete strategy games out there, one has to wonder whether this expansion is a necessary addition or not, something we’ll find out when Rise and Fall is released next year.
