Days Gone, one of the hottest PS4 exclusives, has been delayed out of 2018

If one thing is clear, is that Sony has a very strong line-up of games in store for 2018. These include the futuristic sci-fi adventure Detroit: Become Human, a great-looking God of War reboot, and of course, The Last of Us Part II, the eagerly awaited sequel to developer Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic zombie game.

There’s also Days Gone, a highly promising game set in a post-apocalyptic world, which amongst other things looks like it will feature top-notch characters, open-ended gameplay and a dynamic weather system.

However, those who were looking to dive into Days Gone’s zombie-infested world will have to wait a little longer it seems, as the game has been delayed out of 2018 as Sony president Shuhei Yoshida recently told gaming outlet GameSpot.

So, what could the reason behind this delay be? It’s clear that Days Gone is a big game set in a huge open world employing cutting-edge technology, so perhaps developer Bend Studio needed more time to polish what’s likely to be a massive game when it ships in 2019.

Of course, it’s hard not to think that Sony did not want two big PS4 exclusives like The Last of Us Part II and Days Gone clashing this year… After all, both games are thematically very similar but The Last of Us is the better-known brand by far, and perhaps two post-apocalyptic PS4 zombie games in one year was a bit too much as well.

So delaying Days Gone could help Sony avoid a “Titanfall 2 scenario”, then. This what happened to Electronic Arts’ futuristic shooter Titanfall 2 back in 2016, a great game the sales of which did not live up to expectations. This was in part due to it being released between Battlefield 1 and Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, two much better-known franchises.

Here’s hoping that Days Gone gets a chance to shine in 2019 then, and that this post-apocalyptic game ends up being as good as everyone is hoping it will be when it finally hits shelves next year.
