Some of last year’s best games were competing for the DICE awards in Las Vegas last week, in what many consider to be the video game industry’s answer to Hollywood’s Academy Awards.
And five video games were competing to grab the prestigious Game of the Year award: God of War, Into the Breach, Marvel’s Spider-Man, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Return of the Obra Dinn.
And although it was nice to see two indie games amongst the finalists for Game of the Year, it was Sony’s blockbuster God of War which picked up the big prize this year.
Actually, God of War was the big winner of the evening, and bagged a total of nine awards, also including the Adventure Game of the Year award, Outstanding Achievement in Character and other awards.
Regarding the other winners, indie platform game Celeste sure deserves a mention as it picked up two awards, including the Action Game of the Year award.
Also, and as expected, Fortnite was the winner in the online games category, and this is not surprising: it was the most played online multiplayer game of 2018, and also the most profitable, making Epic Games a ton of cash during the year. The best-selling and great Monster Hunter: World was a logical winner in the role-playing games category too, while Forza Horizon 4 was undoubtedly a worthy winner of the Racing Game of the Year award.
It’s great then, to see some of 2018’s best games being honoured at one of the most prestigious awards ceremonies for video games, and hopefully there will be even better games for fans to enjoy this year.
