Those fond of playing video games have at some point or another searched for secrets in their games, also commonly known as “Easter eggs”. For instance, in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain players could find a character based on designer Hideo Kojima’s likeness at some point in the game, while the likes of Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim also feature plenty of secrets for gamers to find.
So it is not surprising that last year’s gaming sensation The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which was arguably the best game of 2015, also featured its share of Easter eggs like hidden pots of gold and references to popular films and TV series. And now that game creators CD Projekt Red have released the great Blood and Wine expansion for The Witcher 3, players are also finding the odd secret or two in this DLC.
This also made playing through Blood and Wine’s story an even better experience, and there’s no doubt that the expansion’s content is arguably better than that of the main game, featuring some great characters, action and intrigue in the fictional land of Toussaint.
And it seems that one inquisitive player took a break from fighting monsters and tending to protagonist Geralt’s vineyard to look for secrets in Toussaint, and eventually found a really well-hidden Easter egg in the mountains of Toussaint… Actually, finding this one took over a month, as it’s impossible for players to get to it by normal means. But using a free-cam on PC, this player relocated to a distant mountain in the game, and roaming around for a while came across a weird-looking object… This turned out to be a picture of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s development team at CD Projekt, the people behind the game.
It is fitting though, that a game that features so much deception, secrets and intrigue in its plot should also have one of the best-hidden video game secrets ever, but I’m betting this is not the last secret players will come across while playing The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine expansion this year…
