Without a doubt, backwards compatibility is one of the Xbox One’s top features: it lets you replay old classics from the Xbox 360 era without having to lug out your old console to do so. And Microsoft recently got many Xbox One fans excited when it announced that it would be adding original Xbox games to the backwards compatibility list, meaning old classics like Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time are now playable on the Xbox One.
Also, other gems such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic are backwards compatible on the Xbox One, and recently another bunch of Star Wars games were added to the list.
Amongst these is Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, a game much-revered by RPG fans due to its great characters, story and gameplay. And it’s clear that developer Obsidian had a mountain to climb when making this game, taking into account how well-received the earlier Knights of the Old Republic (which was made by Bioware of Mass Effect fame) had been.
Obsidian lived up to the task though, and delivered a role-playing gem set in the Star Wars universe which also features one of the best characters seen in gaming to date, the good old wise female Jedi Kreia.
It’s a good thing, then, that Knights of the Old Republic II can now be enjoyed on the Xbox One, and fortunately this is not the only Star Wars game recently added by Microsoft to the console’s backwards compatibility list.
Other additions include Star Wars: Battlefront and Star Wars: Battlefront II, which should not be confused with the newer Star Wars Battlefront games which shipped in 2015 and 2017, as these two older Battlefront games were published by now defunct video game company LucasArts in the last decade.
These do follow the formula of the newer Battlefront games though, and feature a single player campaign which is played in both first and third person across a variety of scenarios set in the Star Wars universe. Note the multiplayer side of these games is no longer available though.
Another Star Wars game released for the original Xbox console fans will now be able to play on their Xbox One consoles is Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy, which is part of the highly-regarded Jedi Knight series, in which players take missions from legendary Star Wars character Luke Skywalker himself…
There’s also Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, another action game set in the Star Wars universe in which you get to control classic Star Wars spaceships like the X-Wing in a series of increasingly challenging missions. Also added to the list is Star Wars: Republic Commando, a tactical shooter played in first-person which is set after the events of George Lucas’ Attack of the Clones (don’t worry, the game is actually more exciting than that film…).
If you already own any of these backwards compatible games, you can just pop in the disc and begin playing. Otherwise, they can still be purchased online on the Xbox Store and retailers such as Amazon.
And it’s no doubt a great thing that the Xbox One’s backwards compatibility list keeps growing by the day, and surely Microsoft will keep adding new games to the list, even if not all of these have always worked on the Xbox One without issues. Nonetheless, here’s hoping more original Xbox games make the list in what remains of 2018, and that this turns out to be another great year for gaming on the Xbox One and other consoles too.
