Man of Steel actor Henry Cavill is a Witcher fan, wants Geralt role in TV series

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was one of 2015’s top games, a sword and fantasy role-playing epic that captivated the minds of millions of video game fans the world over that year.

Unsurprisingly it won many Game of the Year awards too, while its expansions (especially 2016’s Blood and Wine) were of a similarly high standard.

And it seems more than one celebrity actor has fallen prey to the Witcher 3’s incredible fantasy world too… Actually, Henry Cavill, who played Superman in 2013’s box office hit Man of Steel, recently told IGN how much he loves developer CD Projekt’s game when asked which games he was sinking his teeth into these days.

“The Witcher 3. I just replayed all the way through”, the US actor said. “Love that game. Really good game”.

Cavill went further though, and when prompted said he would be interested in playing Geralt of Rivia (the game’s protagonist) in Netflix’s upcoming TV series.

He’s also rather fond of the books it seems, and said Andrzej Sapkowski’s novels (on which the video games and upcoming TV show are based) are “amazing” and “well worth a read”.

Of course, Cavill won’t be eligible for a role in a Witcher movie because one failed to materialize despite being announced back in 2015, while I’ve argued before that while the show looks promising, it’s still not likely to be the next Game of Thrones.

What’s certainly interesting though, is seeing who will get the Geralt role in the end, a critical decision that the people behind the TV show will have to make and which could potentially make or break the series, which is scheduled to premiere sometime in 2020.

Here’s hoping they get their casting choices right then, and that The Witcher on TV manages to draw as many people into its gritty fantasy world as the games did when it hits screens in the future.
