Mass Effect Andromeda won’t actually be ‘softcore space porn’, says Bioware GM

Many were shocked when Bioware’s general manager Aaryn Flynn said on Twitter that the company’s upcoming game Mass Effect Andromeda would be “softcore space porn”, also reminding Mass Effect fans that the video game had recently lost its “partial nudity” rating and got “full nudity” instead from the ESRB, the board responsible for video game ratings in the US.

This clearly did not go down well with some, and Flynn later had to clarify his comments in another tweet, after one user berated Bioware for supposedly turning a video game like Mass Effect Andromeda into porn. “Sorry, I gave the wrong impression. We have strong characters, great gameplay, romances, and more, all dealing with mature themes”, said the Bioware general manager in another tweet.

What’s clear, though, is that Mass Effect Andromeda is bound to have as many sex scenes and romance options as the company’s earlier games like Dragon Age: Inquisition did, and this time these are likely to be more explicit, taking into account the game’s inclusion of “full nudity” according to the ESRB.

But despite the argument about whether video game games need sex scenes or not, it would no doubt be a great thing if this upcoming Mass Effect game delivered as much action and entertainment as the earlier games in the franchise did when it ships later this month.

Note: Mass Effect Andromeda will be released on March 21, 2017 in North America, and March 23 in the rest of the world. Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
