Need for Speed Payback: here are the PC system requirements

Despite the fact that 2015’s Need for Speed wasn’t as great as many expected, quite a few fans of the franchise were still ecstatic when Electronic Arts announced last June that another entry in the Need for Speed series would be hitting shelves this fall.

This new entry, titled Need for Speed Payback, will be released on PS4, Xbox One and PC on November 10, and the game’s PC system requirements have now been revealed by graphics card company Nvidia (via PC Gamer).

Thankfully, those looking for some racing action this holiday season won’t be needing a top of the line PC to do so, as Payback’s minimum system requirements are luckily not out of this world, truth be told.

Actually, you will be able to get away with an Intel i3 processor and 6 GB of memory, while a Nvidia GTX 750 Ti or equivalent AMD graphics card is all that’s needed to be able to enjoy EA’s new racing game.

If you are looking to see Fortune Valley (Need for Speed Payback’s setting) in all its glory you will be needing a beefier rig, though, as an Intel i5-4690K is the recommended processor to enjoy the game at its best, while a GTX 1060 graphics card and 8 GB of memory will be needed to make the most of Electronic Arts’ upcoming game.

Regarding these system requirements, two things stand out: first, the fact that the minimum requirements state that a processor “with 4 hardware threads” is required, and second, that a dual analogue controller is needed to play.

The first would imply that older, dual core processors by AMD would not be supported, while the second would mean PC gamers accustomed to playing with mouse and keyboard wouldn’t be able to do so here. However, since EA themselves have not published the system requirements for the game yet, it would be better to wait until the US company does so in order to confirm any of this.

Aside from the system requirements for EA’s upcoming racer, Nvidia also dropped a new gameplay video for Need for Speed Payback, showing some pretty impressive PC gameplay (at 4K resolution, no less), giving PC gamers a taste of what to expect from this new entry in the long running Need for Speed franchise.

So this is a game that racing fans will no doubt want to keep on their radar then, and also one that could end up becoming one of this year’s top hits if it turns out to be better than 2015’s weak entry and lives up to earlier classics like Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, arguably the best game in the series to date.
