New Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer tells Arthur Morgan’s story

No gamer worth his salt failed to notice that Rockstar put another trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 the other day. And this no doubt is one of the most eagerly-anticipated games in ages, being the sequel to the greatest game ever released to be set in the Wild West, 2010’s Red Dead Redemption.

And although Red Dead Redemption 2’s release is still a while off (it’s hitting shelves in April 2018 barring any delays) at least we now know more about the game’s story and protagonist.

Here you play as outlaw Arthur Morgan, a member of the Van der Linde gang. This may ring a bell if you played Rockstar’s earlier cowboy game as it’s the same gang John Marston (Red Dead Redemption’s protagonist) used to belong to.

This Arthur Morgan character is certainly not a nice guy by the looks of it, as his ruthlessness and hard-hitting attitude do come across in the trailer. Although it would be a great thing in my book if he turned out to be more like Niko Bellic of GTA IV and less like the remorseless protagonists of GTA V Trevor, Michael and Franklin, and that he does find redemption throughout Rockstar’s upcoming game. Nonetheless, there’s no doubt Morgan will be involved in a tussle with the law, as according to the man himself the authorities in three different states are after his hide. So at least there will be plenty of exciting action in Rockstar’s upcoming game…

What’s clear from the trailer, though, is that this will indeed be a prequel to the first Red Dead Redemption, and rumours online point to Rockstar’s new game being set in 1906, and even that John Marston himself could be a playable character in this new Wild West adventure.

It’s too early to confirm any of this, but at least this trailer does look wonderful with Rockstar’s usual attention to detail shining throughout, meaning this could be a fantastic open world for players to immerse themselves in when Red Dead Redemption is released this spring.

Other details which could make this as great as other Rockstar releases are the fact that, unlike in the earlier Red Dead Redemption game, you will be able to dual-wield pistols here (and likely most viewers will think Morgan does look unbelievably cool doing this in the trailer), plus also hunt animals using bow and arrow, something which could be an interesting side activity to enjoy in the game’s open world.

So, this second trailer is a nice taste of what to expect from Rockstar’s upcoming cowboy game, one which hopefully will make its spring 2018 release date and not suffer additional delays like the company’s earlier megahit GTA V did. Regardless of this though, there is no doubt this will be one of the most talked about games of 2018 and beyond, that’s for sure.

Note: Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released in spring 2018. Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
