4. Tomb Raider (1996)

This 1996 classic introduced us to Lara Croft and the series’ trademark “tomb raiding” gameplay.

There is no doubt that the original Tomb Raider game is one of the most influential games ever made. And this is not only due to the fact that it was one of the few high profile games to feature a female protagonist back in the 90’s, but also due to its then cutting-edge graphics and clever level design.

Tomb Raider is a game that started a franchise that’s still going strong today, and made Lara Croft one of the most recognizable characters in gaming the world over. But it was also a great game to play with its great environmental puzzles, memorable levels and superbly entertaining gameplay, and its place in video game history is surely well deserved.
