10. Tomb Raider II (1997)

The addition of vehicles such as speedboats was one of Tomb Raider II’s highlights.

This Tomb Raider sequel, while falling short of the classic original, did bring some new additions to the table to make it a solid and worthwhile game in its own right. The game featured crisper visuals and new outdoor locations besides the tombs and caves of the original, and the game’s plot took Lara to the canals of Venice and archaeological ruins in China in search of a mystical dagger.

The game also added vehicles to the mix like speedboats and motorcycles, making the gameplay more varied, although game makers Core Design did increase the difficulty more than a notch, in a series which was certainly known for its excruciating difficulty in the early years… But still, this was a worthy sequel to one of the most influential video games of all time.
