The rumours have proven true, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider will indeed be hitting shelves this year.
And with Roar Uthaug’s movie now in theatres, this could definitely be a great year for Lara Croft fans, especially if the Shadow of the Tomb Raider game lives up to the hype and ends up being another great entry in the series.
Another good thing is that unlike its predecessor (Rise of the Tomb Raider) this won’t be an Xbox One exclusive at launch. Many Tomb Raider fans were miffed back in 2015 upon hearing the last Tomb Raider game would remain an Xbox One exclusive for a year, but that won’t be the case this time. Actually, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will be launching on PS4 and Xbox One (and PC too) on September 14 this year.
Little else about the game has been revealed by publisher Square Enix at this point, although looking at the game’s announcement trailer below we can garner a few clues about what Shadow of the Tomb Raider could be about.
This is because at some point in the trailer a step pyramid is seen, and also Lara Croft is seen running through the jungle, apparently escaping from a masked pursuer at another point in the trailer. The pyramid and jungle suggest this could be set in a South American country.
Also, the beginning of a solar eclipse at the start of the trailer (surely an unexpected one…) suggests the plot could involve South American gods like those belonging to the Mayan and Aztec cultures. And a South or Central American setting seems ideal for a Tomb Raider game, given the vast amounts of temples and ruins which are found on the continent.
This is all speculation for the time being though, and we’ll have to wait until the game’s worldwide reveal on April 27 to find out more about what we can expect from this latest Tomb Raider adventure. What’s clear though, is that Lara’s next game surely is now one of the year’s most eagerly awaited games, and hopefully this will live up to earlier games like 2013’s Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider when it hits shelves later this year.
