Take-Two reveals GTA V and Mafia 3 are top-sellers

It can’t be argued that GTA V is one of the most successful video games of all time, and last year it was revealed that Rockstar’s open-world video game had sold a whopping 70 million copies, becoming one of the best-selling video games of all time.

So it’s clear that GTA V has become something of a social phenomenon, while the game continues to thrive thanks to the popularity of its multiplayer component GTA Online, which has attracted millions of players and has made quite a bit of money thus far too.

And it’s clear that GTA V continues to sell strongly despite the fact that it was originally released back in 2013, as video game company Take-Two recently revealed that the game has now shipped an astounding 75 million copies according to GameSpot. This makes the latest Grand Theft Auto game the fourth best-selling game of all time, only surpassed by Tetris, Minecraft and Wii Sports.

This also shows that players still have an appetite for open-world games with crime stories, and GTA V is no doubt currently king of the hill of this video game genre. But another Take-Two game similar to GTA V has also done quite well, as the company also reported that Mafia III has now sold 5 million copies, which is not bad at all taking into account that developer Hangar 13’s video game was arguably one of the most disappointing games to have been released last year.

But still, it looks like GTA V’s success will continue in the future, although Rockstar’s superb open-world game could be eclipsed by another of their own games this year as the eagerly-anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 will be hitting the shelves in late 2017.
