8. Psychonauts

Game designer Tim Shafer of Psychonauts delivered an original story of mind control with this 2005 title. Like Time Shafer’s previous game Grim Fandango, this platform game delighted reviewers with its emphasis on story and a cast of characters more colourful than a Christmas tree.

But Psychonauts flopped badly and this is sad, considering how wildly imaginative it was. But it is a reminder that originality and creativity don’t make best-selling games, at least not in the 21^st century.
