The top 5 most disappointing games of 2016

2. Mafia III

Mafia III was the sort of game that looked like it could be one of the year’s top gameplay experiences as it’s a GTA clone by developer 2K Czech, the makers of the great Mafia series, and its predecessor Mafia II was certainly a solid game all-round. But despite Mafia III’s interesting 60’s setting in the city of New Bordeaux (a fictional city based on real-life New Orleans), good story and characters, music and dialog, the game ended up being a disappointment overall due to its weak open-world gameplay.

Because while other open-world games like Dragon Age: Inquisition have had their share of filler and boring missions, Mafia III side missions were a chore most often than not, and distracted from the pretty good main story. This was perhaps a case of making the game open-world without it needing to be, as there was little of interest to do in New Bordeaux, with Mafia III’s weak gameplay ruining what could have been one of the year’s best games.
