The Witcher 3’s Geralt will be in SoulCalibur 6

You may not have heard of SoulCalibur, but this is a video game fighting series which has been going strong since the first entry in the franchise debuted back in 1995.

Unlike the better-known Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat franchises though, SoulCalibur focuses on weapon-based fights, while these games features a roster of characters that’s as varied as that of its rivals too.

And fans of the SoulCalibur series will be pleased to know that Geralt of Rivia from The Witcher franchise will be coming to their favourite fighting game this year as a guest character as was revealed on SoulCalibur’s official Twitter account (via Neowin).

Those familiar with role-playing games will know who Geralt is, of course. He was the protagonist of the three Witcher games which Polish studio CD Projekt Red put out between 2007 and 2015. He’s also known in the games as the “Butcher of Blaviken” and “White Wolf”, and those who’ve played CD Projekt’s RPGs know he is truly a force to be reckoned with in combat.

Actually, SoulCalibur VI developer Bandai Namco put out a gameplay video (see above) showing Geralt in action in this latest SoulCalibur game, in which we see the grizzled warrior make use of his swords and magic signs to beat an opponent to submission.

Aside from Geralt himself, there will also be a new stage in the game based on The Witcher’s Kael Morhen location, which is seen in this preview video too.

This will be good news for fans of The Witcher who are also into the SoulCalibur games then, while it may also help draw attention to Bandai Namco’s long-running fighting franchise when SoulCalibur VI hits shelves later this year.
