This colonial-era Assassin’s Creed with a female protagonist is now playable on Xbox One

Microsoft recently revealed the new games that would be making the Xbox One’s backward compatibility list, without doubt one of the console’s best features. This lets you play old Xbox 360 games on the current-gen Xbox One, and to this date more than 400 games from the past generation are playable, with more being added each month.

And the latest game to make the list is Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD, a 2014 entry in the long-running Assassin’s Creed series. Originally released for Sony’s PS Vita back in 2012, this game is noteworthy for featuring the first female protagonist of the series, the 18th century Assassin Aveline de Grandpre.

This shares the same colonial setting as Assassin’s Creed III, although thankfully Aveline is a more appealing protagonist than the dull Connor lead of the earlier game. It has its share of not-so-great trailing missions and the story is not that good, but being able to don different outfits throughout the game, with Aveline playing high-class lady, slave or Assassin at different points sure was interesting.

Those who already own Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD will be able to get playing the game on their Xbox One console quickly enough: simply pop in the disc, or jump to the “Ready to Download” section if you own a digital copy, while those wanting to get hold of Liberation and enjoy this Assassin’s Creed adventure in colonial America will find the game available for purchase on Microsoft’s Store.

If one thing is clear, though, is that backwards compatibility has been going from strength to strength since Microsoft launched the feature back in 2015, with hundreds of Xbox 360 games and even several original Xbox games now playable on the Xbox One.

Aside from Assassin’s Creed Liberation HD, other games like Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter and Fable Heroes recently joined the list, and hopefully some of player’s most requested additions (such as Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham City and Bethesda’s RPG Skyrim) will make the Xbox One’s backward compatibility list sooner rather than later, in what could end up being another good year for Xbox gaming enthusiasts the world over no doubt.
