After Walt Disney bought Lucasfilm, Star Wars fans were delighted to hear that a new series of Star Wars films would be released starting in 2015, directed by J.J. Abrams of Star Trek fame. This also means that gamers can expect a new batch of Star Wars games, such as Electronic Arts’ Battlefront.
And if we look at the history of Star Wars games, it is clear that there have been quite a few outstanding games. Games that certainly did the Star Wars movies justice and surely pleased fans of the famous galactic saga. Here follows a list of the top 10 Star Wars video games.
1. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003)
This role-playing game set in the Star Wars universe was “the reason to own an Xbox” for many – it was that great. The game was made by Canadian outfit Bioware, who would later go on to make the seminal Mass Effect.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic featured an original story with a great cast of characters, which included a female Jedi known as Bastilla, who is amongst the most appealing female characters in a video game to date, and an original soundtrack composed by none other than Jeremy Soule, who is regarded by many as “the John Williams of video games”. And John Williams as you probably already know is the composer behind the Star Wars music…
Gameplay wise, the game had great tactical battles and the combat was turn-based like in Bioware’s earlier Baldur’s Gate games. And commanding a group of Jedis with their Force powers and lightsabers (like Bastilla’s double-edged one) was an exciting experience that made KOTOR the best Star Wars RPG to date, and the best Star Wars game to date.
