3. Mabari hound (Dragon Age: Origins)

Dragon Age’s Mabari dog was fearsome in battle, and a loyal companion too.

Dragon Age: Origins was a party-based fantasy RPG that debuted in 2009, and one of Bioware’s best games to date. Origins had a cast of characters as colourful as a Christmas tree, featuring the likes of the witch Morrigan, the noble warrior Alistair and the cute rogue Leliana.

And one of the game’s best characters is no doubt the Mabari hound that could join the player’s party early in the game, a dog bred for war in the fantasy world of Ferelden, but which is also a trusty and cute companion and is the protagonist of more than one hilarious situation in the player’s base camp… The Mabari (which players could name to their taste) was a strong party member that could pin enemies down and stun down with its fearsome howl, and surely was a worthy companion to adventure with in this Dragon Age game.
