Japanese designer Hidetaka Miyazaki, the mastermind behind Dark Souls 3, sure loves making his games hard. After all, the Souls games are some of the hardest ever made, and take place in dark fantasy worlds in which players have to contend with brutally tough enemies. And while Dark Souls 2 was a fine game, it was missing Miyazaki’s personal touch (who was busy working on Bloodborne instead), but thankfully the Japanese designer is back to direct the third game of the Souls series.

And one of the gameplay novelties which gamers can expect to see in Dark Souls 3, which was previewed at TGS 2015, is that the gauge meter for magic is back as in Miyazaki’s earlier Demon Souls. In other Dark Souls games, magic could only be used a set number of times before players had to rest at a bonfire, but now with the gauge meter gamers can rely on magic more often, according to IGN. This should make combat more complex and rewarding, although not necessarily easier as players will have to give up using a shield for instance, in order to use magical attacks…

Note: Dark Souls 3 will be released on March 24, 2016. It will be available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
