Familiar characters
And while pleasing Warcraft fans and getting them to flock to theaters won’t be that hard (after all, Blizzard’s World of Warcraft video game had more than 10 million subscribers at some point), will casual viewers find a Warcraft movie appealing enough? Casual moviegoers might be tempted given that the movie clearly draws inspiration from HBO’s Game of Thrones, which has been a massive success, so a little Thrones-style drama in the script could add to the movie as much as the special effects…
Epic Battles
Just like in the Warcraft video games, the movie is likely to feature plenty of huge and epic battles between the Alliance and the Horde. And the two sides come into conflict after the orc’s homeland is ravaged by an unknown event, and orcish chief Durotan and his tribe end up settling on Azeroth’s fields of green.
And while the trailer hints at some pretty big and CGI-heavy battles between the humans and the orcs, it remains to be seen whether the action will be convincing, clear-cut and entertaining, whether director Duncan Jones can prevent the battles from being confusing and instead produce an epic and entertaining spectacle worthy of the Warcraft name…
