It is true that all great heroes eventually hang their cape and put an end to their adventuring days, but Geralt of Rivia, the protagonist of The Witcher games, still has one more adventure to go before retiring.

Game creators CD Projekt will release Blood and Wine, the final expansion for The Witcher 3, on May 31, and it’s already looking like this could be the Witcher’s best adventure to date. Here follow the top things to look forward to in The Witcher 3’s Blood and Wine expansion.

A more adult storyline

Although The Witcher 3 was praised by gamers and critics alike due to its mature story and situations, it seems the Blood and Wine expansion could take things even further. And although clearly protagonist Geralt will live up to his ladies’ man reputation in his final adventure (so the expansion featuring sex scenes is almost a given), Blood and Wine will likely be more violent and gory than anything the original game had to offer.

Because it is true that the game’s setting, the lovely-looking region of Toussaint does have a “bloody secret”, as a gruesome image posted on Twitter shows how dark and bloody the Witcher’s medieval fantasy world can be. CD Projekt has defended the image by stating that The Witcher 3 “is an adult game”, so expect Geralt’s final adventure to have its share of shocking moments…

A big campaign

The game’s last expansion Hearts of Stone was a meaty addition to the game with over 10 hours of content, but Blood and Wine certainly ups the ante, as it’s not only set in an entirely new region of Temeria known as Toussaint but will also be rather lengthy, offering more than 30 hours of new content to enjoy according to game creators CD Projekt.
