4. Mass Effect

After delighting gamers with their seminal Knights of the Old Republic back in 2003, Canadian outfit Bioware created their own sci-fi universe with Mass Effect. The game put players in the shoes of Commander Shepard, the daring starship commander who must deal with the villainous alien Saren and stop the mysterious Reapers from putting an end to the galaxy, in what was surely one of the best video game stories to date.

The game also had some of the most compelling choice and consequence gameplay seen in a role-playing game as it was possible to turn Shepard into a rude mercenary-type or a galactic do-gooder according to player choice. And apart from the great supporting cast, featuring squad members like the soldier Ashley Williams and the Asari alien Liara, the game also featured superb third-person combat, which was even comparable to top-notch titles like Gears of War, so replaying this golden oldie on the Xbox One will surely be a treat for many gamers.
