Ubisoft’s Skull and Bones game has been delayed out of 2018

One of the most interesting games Ubisoft was gearing up to release this year was no doubt Skull & Bones.

Skull & Bones was scheduled to ship sometime this year, and as its name suggests, this is a game involving pirates… Actually, this Ubi game is currently in the hands of developer Ubisoft Singapore, who coincidentally also worked on Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, another Ubisoft game famous for its pirate battles in the high seas.

Unlike Black Flag though, this upcoming title by the French company will mostly be a multiplayer game, with players competing against each other in ship battles across the Caribbean, although the game will apparently not be bereft of a single player mode either.

Those looking to play Skull & Bones and take to the salty waters of the Caribbean will have to wait longer though, as Ubisoft recently announced in an earnings report that the game’s launch date has been delayed, and won’t ship until 2019 at the earliest.

“Ubisoft has decided to give itself more time to develop Skull & Bones to offer players an even more engaging experience”, the company said.

This comes in the wake of strong sales of other Ubisoft’s games like Assassin’s Creed Origins and Far Cry 5, especially the latter which Ubisoft said is its “second biggest release ever”.

However, despite the Skull & Bones delay, Ubisoft fans will still have to plenty to chew on in the coming year, including sports game The Crew 2, the highly anticipated The Division sequel, and one announced franchise game which the French powerhouse will reveal more at this year’s E3.

Here’s hoping then, that Skull & Bones turns out to be as good as fans are expecting it to be when it finally hits shelves, while this still certainly looks like it will be a top-notch year for gaming despite the delay of Ubisoft’s pirate game.
