Vampyr gets a creepy trailer ahead of launch

Vampyr is one of the year’s most eagerly anticipated games, no doubt. This is in no small part due to the fact that DontNod Entertainment is behind the game, the American outfit behind 2015’s much-loved Life is Strange video game.

Vampyr couldn’t be more different though, and instead of being set in the present day, takes place in the early 20th century. And unlike Life is Strange, this doesn’t involve a teenager with magical powers trying to find her place in the world, although Vampyr’s protagonist Jonathan Reid does have special powers of his own.

You see, as the game’s launch trailer (see below) shows, Reid is a vampire, and must feed on his fellow Londoners regularly as this gives him access to special powers in the game, allowing him to take on the deadly supernatural creatures roaming the city at night.

What’s most interesting about Vampyr, though, is that each citizen in the city goes about his or her own business and is part of a social web, meaning whom you choose to feed on can have consequences on how the plot unfolds. Being a doctor, though, Reid can also help keep the populace alive amidst the deadly flu epidemic that’s ravaging the city.

Vampyr’s setting, main character and atmosphere certainly look promising then, but it remains to be seen whether this game will be as engaging and fun to play through as DontNod’s earlier Life is Strange game was, something we’ll find out when this hits shelves next week.
