If one thing is clear, is that Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner movie is one of the most influential sci-fi films ever made. Set in a dystopian future society were artificial humans known as replicants coexist with real people, Ridley Scott’s flick caused quite a sensation back in the 80’s.

This was not only due to its impressive visuals, good characters like Harrison Ford’s replicant hunter Deckard and the enigmatic replicant leader Roy Batty (superbly played by actor Rutger Hauer), but also due to its philosophical underpinnings. Actually, the movie posed the question of what it means to be human, plus the subject of whether Harrison Ford’s character Deckard is a replicant or not is still hotly debated by sci-fi buffs.

So given what an influential movie Blade Runner is, it makes sense that people are eagerly awaiting the sequel, which is slated to hit theatres worldwide this October. And now the first trailer for the movie has been released, which admittedly does look pretty good.

Although one sore point is that Ridley Scott won’t be directing this sequel to his 1982 classic. No, taking the helm is Denis Villeneuve, who was behind the widely acclaimed Arrival (which you might recall won an Academy Award this year).

And Harrison Ford will once again play the role of Deckard, who’s now a grizzled old detective who might teach protagonist Ryan Gosling (Officer K) a trick or two in this movie. Also starring are Ana de Armas, Mackenzie Davies and Edward James Olmos, who reprises his role of Gaff from the first movie.

Of course, the movie is still months away as it hit theatres in October. But will this movie finally answer the question of whether Deckard is a replicant or not? This remains to be seen, although hopefully this will provide as much thrills, action and be as thought-provoking as the original when it’s released this fall.

Note: Blade Runner 2049 will be released on October 6, 2017.
