Xbox Live Gold users: these are the Xbox One games you can pick up for free in June 2017

One of the nice things of Xbox Live Gold membership is the free monthly games you get courtesy of Microsoft, which have included releases like Assassin’s Creed Revelations and The Walking Dead: Season Two in the past. And the Redmond company recently announced the games that will be available free of cost for Gold members this June, with this list including some of the top blockbuster video games of the last decade.

Perhaps the most noteworthy of these games is Ubisoft’s Watchdogs, which hit shelves back in 2014. This game (which you can pick up for free from June 16 to July 15) is one of the better GTA clones out there, and plays similarly to Rockstar’s world-conquering GTA V. Unlike Rockstar’s megahit though, this also features hacking, allowing you to remotely control cars and security cameras, amongst other things.

Xbox Live Gold subscribers will also be able to pick up Speedrunners for nil this June, a competitive multiplayer, side-scrolling game in which you can resort to plenty of devious tricks to kick your opponents off the screen… Also, the Phantom Dust multiplayer DLC will be free during the entirety of June for Xbox Gold members too.

Although it’s likely many will find the two Xbox 360 games available for free this June more interesting than the Xbox One offerings, although thankfully these two are backwards compatible on Microsoft’s current-gen console too.

These include Assassin’s Creed III, which might not be the best game in the historical, time-travelling series, but still offers some nice action and parkour set during the American Revolution. The game will be free from June 1 to June 15.

There’s also the highly-regarded Dragon Age Origins, which arguably is one of the best RPGs ever made, and also one of Bioware’s (the makers of Mass Effect Andromeda) best releases. One interesting thing about Dragon Age Origins (which will be available for free from June 16 to June 30) is that each of the game’s playable races (dwarf, elf and human) has a unique origin story, meaning the first few hours of the game will be different depending on the kind of character you choose to play.

Additionally, if you’re on Xbox Live Gold you might still want to check out Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris (one of the top Tomb Raider games made to date) which will continue to be free until June 15.

So this will certainly be good news for those looking to spend some quality time playing games on their Xbox One this summer, while Microsoft will keep offering its usual selection of free monthly games to Xbox Live Gold users throughout the year, and hopefully these will be as interesting as the ones we’ve gotten so far this year.
