Overwatch is Blizzard’s first new video game franchise in years, so it is logical that expectations are high for the game, which is one of the most eagerly awaited video games of the year, no doubt. This online multiplayer game features a cast of colourful characters including Winston, a genetically-engineered gorilla (who also happens to be a brilliant scientist…) and the protagonist of a rather cute teaser video released earlier this month (see below).

Overwatch’s roster of characters also features the likes of Tracer, who has already been controversial due to accusations of sexism related to one of her victory poses, the sexy assassin named Widowmaker, and also the Russian soldier Zarya, to name a few.

And those eager to dive into Overwatch’s first-person shooting action have a chance to try the game this week (from May 5 to May 9), as players will be able to play the game’s beta version for free. The beta will include all of the games heroes (21 in all), 12 maps and 4 multiplayer modes. Players will also be able to practice their skills versus the game’s AI (Artificial Intelligence), for those who wish to play solo. The multiplayer modes on offer are Assault, Escort, Assault / Escort Hybrid and Control.

Further details on the beta, which requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription for Xbox One owners, can be found on the game’s official website here.

Note: Overwatch will be released on May 24, 2016. Available on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
