Ranking the best Resident Evil movies

5. Resident Evil: The Final Chapter (2017)

The latest Resident Evil movie continues the story of zombie-basher Alice, who’s still looking to get even with the Umbrella Corporation and her old foes Dr. Isaacs and henchman Albert Wesker. But while the earlier Resident Evil movies have been thin or plot and heavy on action, The Final Chapter does have the flimsiest plot of all of director Paul W. S. Anderson’s zombie flicks.

Actually, this is just a collection of spectacular action set pieces strung one after the other, which do little to advance the story or develop the characters, but are crowd-pleasing enough. And this does look more like a video game at times, so it’s fitting its release was timed to coincide with that of the latest Resident Evil video game… But still, this doesn’t have the CGI overdose and slow motion of parts 4 and 5, and Mila Jovovich still looks great as Alice in another convicing action role. Ultimately, though, this doesn’t come close to the first three films, but it’s still top-notch popcorn entertainment all the same.
