These were the top games previewed at the Game Awards coming in 2026

The Game Awards are the closest thing the video game world has to the Oscars, and some would even argue it’s the only video game awards ceremony that counts, although that might be taking things too far… Nonetheless, it’s obvious video game developers want to bag an award on the night (that is, if their games make the nominees list).

The Game Awards 2025 was also an occasion for video game companies to show off their games, announcing new titles, or revealing new things about their upcoming games.

Such was the case of Amazon Game Studios, which announced that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be arriving in 2026. This will be “a stunning reimagining of the 1996 genre-defining game” according to the game’s description. The trailer below shows protagonist Lara Croft performing her usual acrobatics and shooting dinosaurs, and if developer Crystal Dynamics can get this right, Tomb Raider fans will be cheering next year for sure.

Of course, beside new announcements, other previously announced games got new trailers at the Game Awards 2025, including Resident Evil Requiem. This upcoming new entry in the survival horror series got a new bone-chilling trailer, which confirms that series stalwart Leon S. Kennedy will be co-protagonist of the game together with FBI agent Grace Ashcroft. Japanese company Capcom will launch the game next February.

Lucasfilm Games also joined the party with the announcement of Star Wars: Galactic Racer at the Game Awards. The trailer below showcases competitive, ruthless racing in the Outer Rim of the galaxy (which is known for its lawlessness according to the game’s description). Also the trailer below shows that infamous Phantom Menace character Sebulba will make an appearance. Although this will obviously focus more on racing than story when it arrives sometime in 2026.

Finnish studio Remedy Entertainment also released a trailer for Control: Resonant, a sequel to their 2019 game Control. The third-person shooter was one of the best games of that year, and one of the big revelations of this trailer is the change of protagonist. Dylan Faden (brother of Control’s protagonist Jesse) will be taking over the mantle in Resonant. Instead of wielding a gun, though, he carries a huge, Thor-like hammer, which he will use to battle the game’s supernatural enemies (“the Hiss”) which have taken over Manhattan when this sequel to Control launches in 2026.

Another new exciting game showed off at the Game Awards this year is Saros. Previously announced at Sony’s State of Play, this sequel to 2023’s Returnal got a new trailer and release date at the Game Awards 2025. Returnal’s third-person action and roguelike gameplay will be back in this pseudo sequel, while this also features British actor Rahul Kohli as seen in the trailer below. Meanwhile, developer Housemarque is aiming for an April 2026 release date for their new game.

Additionally, and while we already knew that Warner Bros. Games would be releasing LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, the game got a new trailer and release date at the Game Awards. Warner will be launching their new Lego game in May next year. This will feature open-world, action and adventure, and will let players take control of a Lego version of Batman amongst other characters, with the trailer below showcasing villains like the Joker and Two-Face (their Lego versions of course…).

Also, Nioh 3 got another gameplay trailer at this year’s Game Awards. This is one of the most eagerly awaited video game sequels coming in 2026, and this trailer shows how players can switch between samurai and ninja styles in the game at the flip of a button. This Sengoku-era third-person action game also features big and fearsome bosses to fight as seen in the trailer below, which are likely to be very challenging taking into account the Nioh games are famous for their difficulty, something we’ll get to find out when this arrives in February 2026.

Additionally, Blizzard got to make a new announcement regarding Diablo IV at the Game Awards. This was a dark action RPG released in 2023, a good sequel to the earlier Diablo 3 which still has many players. So it makes sense that the game is getting another expansion, which is titled “Lord of Hatred”. This not only adds a new campaign and new character classes, including the powerful Paladin which was showcased at the Game Awards this year, with the expansion arriving next April.

There’s also French role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which was the big winner at the Game Awards 2025, and it’s getting new DLC content. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 not only won the Game of the Year award but several others, so French studio Sandfall released the new DLC as a way of saying “thank you” to players and fans. And the best thing is that gamers won’t have to wait until next year to play it, as it’s available right now for owners of the game.

Besides this, there were other game announcements made at this year’s Game Awards, but the games in question, while no doubt exciting, won’t be launching in 2026. These include a new mainline instalment in the Tomb Raider series (Tomb Raider: Catalyst, planned for 2027), a spiritual successor to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic), and Larian Studios’ (the people behind Baldur’s Gate 3) new role-playing game Divinity.

All in all, this surely was a Game Awards ceremony to remember, with many exciting video game announcements and reveals, many of which will be hitting the shelves next year and giving gamers the world over reasons to be excited as 2026 draws nearer.
