Forza Horizon 5 is a big hit on PS5 – is Starfield coming to Sony’s console next?

Few people haven’t heard of the Forza Horizon franchise, the racing game series that’s become a big hit on Microsoft’s console (and PC too). The latest entry in the series, Forza Horizon 5 is set in sunny Mexico and offers exhilarating racing action, it becoming a top selling game on Microsoft’s consoles and the PC platform back in 2021.

And given that Microsoft has been porting its major hits to Sony’s PlayStation 5 this year, it was only a matter of time before the latest Forza Horizon game arrived on Sony’s console. This happened in April 2025, and many were stunned when it was recently revealed that Forza Horizon 5 is now the top-selling game on PS5 this year. After having hit 3 million copies sold, Microsoft’s game leads the list of PS5 top sellers as reported on Eurogamer.

In second place is Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest instalment of Capcom’s open world monster hunting series, with 2.9 million copies sold on PlayStation 5. Capcom’s game, though, has sold the bulk of its copies on PC, with more than 6 million units sold on Steam. Also, Monster Hunter Wilds generated more revenue than Forza Horizon 5 due to its higher price.

But it is still significant that Forza Horizon 5 has taken top spot in terms of total number of copies sold, it being a game from Sony’s uber rival Microsoft. And Forza’s achievement is an even bigger one if we take into account it has also sold more copies than Astro Bot, a Sony first party game that came out last summer, and has won many Game of the Year accolades.

So taking this into account, doesn’t it make sense for Microsoft to bring more Xbox exclusives to Sony’s console? Earlier this year, former Xbox (and PC) exclusive Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was released on PS5 and sold faster than on Xbox and PC after launch, even if it hasn’t been quite as successful as Forza Horizon 5 has on PlayStation.

Will Starfield be the next Xbox exclusive to make the jump to PS5?

But still, many are hoping that Microsoft brings its other recent big exclusive to PS5 soon… This is Starfield, of course, a space faring role-playing game by Bethesda, the people behind The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and the more recent Oblivion Remastered. Microsoft acquired the studio and its parent company Zenimax in a highly publicized deal in 2021.

Starfield was one of the top games to hit the shelves back in 2023. It had its issues at launch as is the case with most Bethesda’s games, but still scored highly on Metacritic, and has received numerous updates and patches since its launch in September 2023. So if the game where to arrive on PS5, it would be an even better version of it than was released on Xbox Series X/S and PC back in the day, that’s for sure.

And Microsoft might be bringing its sci-fi RPG to PS5 in the future, as one insider (who goes by the online alias NateTheHate2) has revealed, although the game many not hit the PS5 this year, as the man has said recently on X (via playstationlifestyle.net) responding to a user inquiry.

Also, further proof of the game coming to PS5 emerged earlier this year, as a user mod for Starfield presumably had the PS5 as one of the supported platforms. The mod itself was removed from Bethesda’s creations page, after the PlayStation logo had first been removed from the available platforms list for said user mod as discussed here.

So it is something of an inevitability that Starfield ends up coming to Sony’s console, especially in light of Forza Horizon 5’s success in 2025. Microsoft has an opportunity to reveal a PS5 version of Starfield at the Gamescom show in Germany in late August, although it might choose another venue to do so. This is something which those looking forward to a PlayStation version of Bethesda’s game will be waiting for with bated breath for sure…
