1. The Lord of the Rings: Gollum

It was inevitable that the crazy, schizophrenic creature from the Lord of the Rings trilogy would get his own game. This makes sense as Gollum is one of the most popular characters from the Lord of the Rings universe, ever since being portrayed to perfection by Andy Serkis in Peter Jackson’s movies. But alas, his game by developer Daelic Entertainment turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments of the year.

Gollum’s journey through Middle-earth was plagued by technical issues, a weak story and poor gameplay. Although much to its credit Daelic has vowed to fix the game’s myriad issues (a good thing for the many how bought The Lord of the Rings: Gollum) even if this does not detract from the fact this was one of the most disappointing games of 2023.
