Although the Far Cry franchise has been one of the best-selling on consoles in the last couple of years, the truth is that the series began on PC back in 2004. And although it’s been a long time since that first Far Cry game made by Crytek hit shelves, it appears Ubisoft is devoting the same care and attention to the PC version of Far Cry 5. This is the latest game in the series which is slated for release on March 27 this year, after its original February release date was postponed last December.
And it seems those looking to play Far Cry 5 on PC won’t need a super-expensive rig to do so, as the game’s minimum system requirements are quite reasonable truth be told. Actually, an Intel i5-2400 or AMD FX-6300 processor, paired with a Nvidia Geforce GTX 670 or AMD equivalent graphics card and 8 GB of memory, will suffice to run the game at 720p resolution.
Of course, if you want a better experience and wish to enjoy Far Cry 5 at 1080p and 60 frames per second, a beefier rig will be required. An Intel i7-4770 or an AMD Ryzen 5 1600 are the recommended processors here, while a Nvidia GTX 970 or AMD R9 290X graphics card with 4 GB of memory onboard will be necessary if you want to meet the game’s recommended system requirements.
Of course, if you want to cruise through an even prettier version of Far Cry 5’s Montana and run the game at 4K resolution, Ubisoft has also published the system requirements to get the game going at glorious ultra-high definition on the Ubiblog.
These as you can imagine are way more demanding, especially if you want to enjoy the game at 4K and 60 frames per second. In this case you will need either a powerful Intel i7-6700K or an AMD Ryzen 7 1700X processor, backed up by 16 GB of memory.
You will also need some serious graphical horsepower too, as Ubisoft recommends a pair of GeForce GTX 1080 in SLI mode or two AMD RX Vega 56 in Crossfire mode in order to play the game at 2160p and 60 frames per second. Also, Windows 10 64 bit is the only supported operating system in this case.
Since the game’s release date has been postponed until late March, though, at least those with the intent of buying Far Cry 5 on PC and sidestepping the console versions will have plenty of time to upgrade their PC, even if the minimum requirements are definitely not out of this world. Either way, here’s hoping this latest instalment in the long-running first-person shooter series lives up to the hype, and turns out to be another entertaining open-world romp when it ships this March.
