The Assassin’s Creed games in order: a look at the 27 Assassin’s Creed games released to date

25. Assassin’s Creed Mirage (2023)

A homage to the original Assassin’s Creed game, Mirage was the last game in the series to release on last-gen consoles. And this adventure set in 9th century Baghdad sure is entertaining on all gaming platforms. Another good thing for some is the fact Ubisoft ditched the RPG ambitions of the previous games in favor of a more linear experience.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage, though, features Basim as protagonist, who was also one of the main characters in their Viking epic Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. The familiar Assassin’s Creed gameplay is present and correct: parkour, stealth and assassinations are welcome as Basim takes on the Templars (known here as the Order of the Ancients) in the Middle East in a shorter, more focused but still good entry in the Assassin’s Creed series.

Came out on: PS4, Xbox One, PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and others.

26. Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR

Although virtual reality did not take off spectacularly like many predicted, there are quite a few good games available for VR headsets, including this Assassin’s Creed entry. This lets you take control of different Assassin’s Creed characters: Ezio Auditore, Kassandra and Connor have been protagonists of previous games in the past, so this VR game features some serious time hopping.

You would think that Assassin’s Creed with its sci-fi elements would translate well to VR, and this a solid and fun game according to most game critics, even if the combat is not its strong suit. Also, only those with a Meta Quest headset will be able to join the fun and play this game, something quite a few Assassin’s Creed lovers worldwide will probably want to do though.

Came out on: Meta Quest (2, Pro, 3)

27. Assassin’s Creed Shadows

Assassin’s Creed fans had been clamoring for a game set in Japan for a long time. And although people did get to play Ghost of Tsushima in 2020, they finally got their Japanese Assassin’s Creed this year. Set in Sengoku-era Japan, Assassin’s Creed Shadows offers dual protagonists: you can play as Naoe, a shinobi who relies on stealth to take down her opponents and Yasuke, a samurai of African origin who prefers a more direct approach.

This also mostly sticks to Ubisoft’s open-world formula, with a main story to follow and side quests to take on in feudal Japan. There’s also a detailed weather system and big Japanese castles to take over in Ubisoft’s game, which like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla before it is an epic RPG for gamers to sink their teeth into.
