The Far Cry games in order: a look at the 13 Far Cry games released to date

Now that Ubisoft is working on the next Far Cry game, it’s time to take a look at the entire series of Far Cry games. The first-person shooter franchise has mostly been set in exotic locations, even if the French company broke with tradition by setting Far Cry 5 in the US state of Montana.

Nonetheless, the Far Cry games are some of the best when it comes to delivering first-person action in war-torn locations. They also feature larger than life villains such as Far Cry 4’s dictator Pagan Min. So without further ado, here follows a list of the Far Cry games in order of release (note: the VR releases have been excluded from this list).

1. Far Cry (2004)

German developer Crytek delivered a sucker punch with Far Cry, as the game was miles ahead of the competition when it launched back in 2004. It also turned out to be a stunning first-person shooter in its own right.

This was partly thanks to the game’s cutting-edge graphics: Far Cry’s detailed jungles and islands knocked people’s socks off. The game’s South Pacific islands were populated with the most ruthless enemies people had seen in a game: the mercenaries of baddie Dr. Krieger. Far Cry’s difficulty may have been off-putting during the game’s first level, though, as the mercenaries could easily hit you from a long distance.

Also, the game’s lack of save points means most players are unlikely to have reached the end of Crytek’s masterpiece. Nonetheless, this is still the best entry in the series not to feature open-world gameplay, and surely deserves credit for that.
