10. MindsEye

Many gamers were looking forward to MindsEye, a third-person shooter game set in a near future US city. Build A Rocket Boy studio was behind it, founded none other than Leslie Benzies of Grand Theft Auto fame, even though the man had left Rockstar controversially in the past, and is no longer a producer at the company.

Sadly, MindsEye had a disastrous launch, with players complaining about crashes and bugs, something the studio vowed to address on an X post. But things were so bad for some that some got refunds from Sony’s PlayStation store too… Also controversial was the fact that the studio’s co-CEO said that there was a campaign to put down both Build A Rocket Boy and MindsEye, with bots review bombing the game and giving it dislikes on social media, even suggesting Rockstar might be behind this… However, he denied a popular YouTuber had been paid off to give the game bad publicity. In the end, though, MindsEye poor critical reception had nothing to do with this (it was one of the worst games of the year) but no doubt it was also one of the most controversial games of 2025.
