The top 10 most controversial games of 2025

3. Days Gone Remastered

Days Gone was one of the top-selling games of the PS4 era, an open-world game which surprised many due to it featuring a large number of undead enemies onscreen (or “freakers” as they were known in the game). It sold millions but never got a sequel, and did generate some controversy back in the day due to, amongst other things, the lack of diversity of the game’s cast.

And Days Gone Remastered has also been controversial in 2025 for other reasons. The remaster being digital only annoyed some, but the lack of an upgrade path for some users was jarring for many… Those who had the game on PS Plus couldn’t upgrade to the remastered edition (a $10 US dollar upgrade) but had to pay full price instead if they wanted to get hold of it. The remaster improves the game’s graphics, features DualSense haptic feedback support and includes new gameplay modes amongst other things. It’s hard to say it’s a must have, especially considering Days Gone has had a PS5 patch which improves its looks and performance on Sony’s current-gen console. But still, Days Gone not getting a sequel despite selling millions is one of the biggest video game controversies to date too…
