Star Wars Outlaws to get new story expansion, as the game heads to Nintendo Switch 2

Many gamers were looking forward to the release of Star Wars Outlaws last year. The game, though, arrived in a less than polished state, with glitches, bugs and gameplay issues drawing fire from reviewers and players alike…

The people behind the game (French powerhouse Ubisoft and its studio Massive Entertainment) did improve and fix the game for its Steam release last fall, making playing through Outlaws a more pleasant experience now. Nonetheless, the much-hyped Star Wars title wasn’t the sales hit that Ubisoft was hoping it would be.

But still, the French company is releasing more content for the game this year, in the form of a story expansion titled “A Pirate’s Fortune”. In it, players once again take control of protagonist Kay Vess, who teams up with a notorious pirate in order to raid an ancient tomb in the Khepi system.

According to Ubisoft: “Embark on a mysterious adventure with Kay and Nix to explore the Khepi system and learn what it takes to be a true leader. Team up with legendary pirate Hondo Ohnaka and face off against Stinger Tash and her Rokana Raiders as you infiltrate the Khepi Tomb to uncover the secrets and hidden treasures it holds”.

You can also get rewards for Kay’s spaceship (the Trailblazer) via a group known as the “Miyuki Trade League”.

Aside from this, this paid update for Star Wars Outlaws will also grant players a new outfit for Nix (Kay’s pet and sidekick in the game) and other cosmetic items.

The “A Pirate’s Fortune” DLC expansion for Star Wars Outlaws will sell for $15 US dollars and will release on May 15. The game is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Also, Ubisoft already announced at the Star Wars celebration in Japan last weekend that Star Wars Outlaws will be coming to Nintendo Switch 2, but not as a launch title. Actually, the game will hit the Switch 2 in September, while Nintendo’s new gaming system is slated for release this June, priced at $450 US dollars.

Besides Star Wars Outlaws, Ubisoft is yet to announce whether its hit game Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be heading to Nintendo Switch 2 too… But given that the less successful Star Wars Outlaws is coming to Nintendo’s new console it’s very likely that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will as well.

It remains to be seen too how well Star Wars Outlaws will run on the new Switch console, which according to pundits should be about as powerful as Microsoft’s Xbox Series S console (when docked, that is).

Gamers playing Star Wars Outlaws in handheld mode will obviously have to accept a visual and performance downgrade when playing on the Nintendo Switch 2, and it will be interesting to see how well optimized Outlaws will be on Nintendo’s console. But hopefully playing through Ubisoft’s Star Wars game will be a good experience for early adopters of Nintendo’s upcoming console this year.
