5. The Sinking City Remastered

This Lovecraftian game takes place in the America of the 1920’s. The game puts you in control of detective Charles Reed, a tormented character who has to figure out what’s driving the US city of Oakmont to madness. Made by Ukraine studio Frogwares (who are also behind several games featuring Sherlock Holmes) and originally released in 2019, The Sinking City got a remastered edition this year.

Besides bumping up the visuals to 4K resolution, The Sinking City Remastered also gets the benefit of ray tracing. Frogwares has also retooled the game’s combat, an aspect of the original game which was criticized back in the day. Fighting the game’s horrid Lovecraftian creatures has been a better experience for many in the remaster then, even if the investigations are the real meat of this survival horror game. Figuring out what led someone to a grisly end in Oakmont or taking on a quest involving a magic mirror for a character named Robert Throgmorton is still fun in this remaster, so it’s likely many gamers will be looking forward to The Sinking City’s sequel coming later in 2025.
