That video game studios are addicted to sequels is obvious by the number of these gamers get every year. But since many of these turn out to be fantastic games, who’s complaining? And there certainly are many promising video game sequels on the horizon, games which could surely make their mark next year. So without further ado, here follow a list of the top 10 video game sequels coming 2026.
1. Resident Evil Requiem
Much to the delight of survival horror fans everywhere, Capcom is gearing up to release another entry in the long-running Resident Evil series. This ninth Resident Evil instalment features a new protagonist by necessity, as previous stalwart Ethan Winters’ story ended in 2021’s Resident Evil Village. So the franchise is switching to a female protagonist here in Grace Ashcroft, a woman tormented by her past who now works for the FBI. She’ll have to face her past – her mother’s death in a hotel years ago – as another person is found dead there, this somehow being connected to the destruction of Raccoon City at the hands of the evil Umbrella Corporation after a zombie outbreak.
And Resident Evil 9 looks to be as dark, gritty and scary as earlier entries were judging by the trailer below, with Grace Ashcroft likely facing all sorts of monstrous creatures here… Interestingly, this could also settle the question of whether a first-person or third-person perspective is better for the series – for the first time ever players will be able to switch between both perspectives in-game. So hopefully this will turn out to be a Resident Evil game to remember when it launches next year, then.
Release date: February 27, 2026. Available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Nintendo Switch 2.
