Capcom upgrades profits due to stronger Resident Evil Requiem sales, as Resident Evil 0 rumors swirl online

Resident Evil Requiem has been one of the top games released in 2026 so far, there’s no doubt of this. The game did not only score with critics, as it’s one of the highest rated on Metacritic this year, but it has also been a scorching success when it comes to sales.

The latest Resident Evil is the first game in the franchise to sell 5 million copies in five days, and these strong sales have continued since the game’s launch on February 27. And the game has done so well that Japanese company Capcom recently upgraded its earnings forecast for the year, as was recently reported on IGN.

The company now expects about 1.2 billion US dollars in net sales for the period ending on March 31, 2026 (which is the end of their fiscal year) and a net profit of $320 million (about 55 billion Japanese yen), around 7 % more than what Capcom had previously forecasted.

In its statement, Capcom also said that besides Resident Evil Requiem “being met with broad acclaim globally, sales grew for catalog titles from major series due to their steady popularity”. So sales of last year’s Monster Hunter Wilds and other games have also been in factor in Capcom’s forecasting more profits, but it is undoubtedly the latest game in the Resident Evil series that has been the main driver here.

This makes sense taking into account how strong sales of Resident Evil Requiem have been – it’s the fastest selling game in the franchise as previously stated, and it also recently crossed the 7 million units sold.

There was a sort of celebration at Capcom for this, with the Resident Evil team presenting two giant cakes to game director Koshi Nakanishi, a photo of which he shared on Instagram (see below, via X).

The Japanese company, though, is not done with Resident Evil Requiem yet, as there’s more in store for those who have finished the game. A mini-game DLC is expected to arrive earlier next month, and this could be a new iteration of the popular “Mercenaries” bonus mode, which was also released for the series’ previous mainline entry (Resident Evil Village, that is).

Also, a fully-fledged story DLC is planned for the game, but it is not known what it will be about at this point. Maybe it revolves around Leon S. Kennedy’s marriage and the person he is engaged to? Fans have speculated that sexy video game girl Ada Wong or perhaps Claire Redfield could be Leon’s wife, and that the DLC’s story might focus on this somehow, but it’s a case of wait and see for the time being…

But given Resident Evil Requiem’s success, it is only logical for Capcom to be already at work on the next entry in the storied franchise. The company is likely to continue the trend of releasing a remake after a mainline entry like Resident Evil Requiem, and the next game could very well be a remake of Resident Evil 0.

Originally released for the Game Cube console in 2002, Zero later got a remaster in 2016 (see trailer below). This prequel to the 1996 original has two main characters: Rebecca Chambers, who is a member of the STARS special forces division, and Billy Coen, a criminal whom she encounters on a train. Players get to control both characters during the game, although Resident Evil Zero admittedly is one of the weakest entries in the series.

Capcom will have an opportunity to improve on this with the rumored remake, which is seemingly codenamed “Project Chamber”, an obvious reference to protagonist Rebecca Chambers. A motion capture actor who played Star-Lord in the Guardians of the Galaxy video game and who also did motion capture work for Ubisoft’s Far Cry 5, listed Project Chamber as one of the games he’s currently involved in in his resume. This is in connection with Beyond Capture Studios, a company which Capcom has worked with in the past (via mp1st.com), so the Resident Evil Zero remake surely is a real thing.

More recent rumors also claim that Capcom is looking to add a multiplayer co-op mode to its remake, meaning one player gets to control Rebecca and the other Billy, which could add to the game’s appeal. Resident Evil 5 was the first game in the series to feature co-op and is highly regarded and was a top-seller, so it makes sense for Capcom to try and bake some form of co-op into the Resident Evil Zero remake too.

So when will the Zero remake hit the shelves? An insider who goes by the handle Dusk Golem has revealed on X that Capcom might actually release a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica first, something that makes sense taking into account that game takes place between Resident Evil 2 and 3 (which have already been remade) with the Zero remake not arriving until 2028. Or it may be that Capcom chooses to release a Resident Evil Zero remake first in 2027, something that appears more likely taking into account rumors suggest the Japanese company is now hard at work on the game, although this remains to be seen…

For the time being though, Capcom can bask in the glory of Resident Evil Requiem’s success, with the game likely to sell even more millions before the year is out, while fans can likely look forward to the Requiem DLC and more exciting news about the Resident Evil Zero remake throughout the year.
