Destiny 2 on PC: release date, special features and system requirements

Destiny 2 launched on consoles last September, and it’s beyond a shadow of doubt that this one of the biggest games of the year so far. So, it’s clear that expectations are sky-high for the upcoming PC version of the game, which will be launching next week.

The game will be available via Blizzard’s Battle.net service (and not Steam as is usual), which is the platform other popular games like World of Warcraft, Starcraft II and Overwatch run on. And game makers Bungie have already revealed that Destiny 2 will launch on PC on Tuesday, October 24, at 10:00 AM PDT (18:00 PM BST). Of course, those eager to get playing as soon as possible can begin pre-loading the game now, so that they can get started with the game right away when it ships on October 24.

Regarding the PC version’s features, the most noteworthy thing is that this supports true 4K, ultra-high definition graphics. Also, you are not restricted to 30 frames per second as in the console versions either, as this PC edition can deliver as many frames per second as your machine can handle.

Of course, this being a PC game you have a choice between playing with a gamepad or a mouse and keyboard – the latter option being a better alternative for Destiny 2’s heated multiplayer matches.

A sore point is that Destiny 2 won’t support cross-play between the PC and console versions, and there’s no cross-save support either. This means that those who have been playing on console until now will need to start from scratch if they decide to pick up this PC version. But the lack of cross-play support is understandable taking into account that mouse and keyboard controls on PC are way more precise than a console gamepad is, and this would have given PC players an unfair advantage when playing against their console counterparts.

Thankfully, though, the game’s system requirements are not so steep for a major, AAA game such as this one, but you might still want to check if your rig is up to the task before diving into the action. As developer Bungie has revealed on its website, you’ll need at least an Intel Pentium G4560 processor or AMD equivalent, plus 6 GB of memory is the minimum amount needed to get the game running.

And as is logical, a more powerful PC will be necessary to enjoy the game at its best, and Bungie recommends either an Intel Core i5-7400 or Ryzen 5 1600X CPU plus 8GB of memory to make the most of this PC version of Destiny 2. Plus, 68 GB of disk space will be required to install this PC port of the game (see full system requirements below).

What’s clear, though, is that Destiny 2 on PC is bound to be one of the biggest video game launches of the year, and one that plenty of PC gamers worldwide will be looking forward to this fall no doubt.
