Gungrave G.O.R.E gets gameplay video at TGS 2021

The Gungrave series of video games first hit the market in 2002, and several games have been released since then.

Known for its bloody and gory action, this third-person action games star Grave (aka Brandon Heat), an undead soldier who fights the evil Millennion organization, and is supported by characters like Mika Asagi and Dr. T.

The series has a loyal fan base so it’s not surprising that another game in the series is in development right now, and is slated for release sometime in 2022.

In order to whet fans’ appetites, Korean studio Iggymob released a new gameplay video at this year’s Tokyo Game Show (TGS for short), which gives players a glimpse of the new game’s third-person gunplay.

The TGS 2021 video also features an opening cinematic in which protagonist Grave enters the scene in a theatrical (and very violent) way, dispatching a group of foes with his pair of guns. It’s clear the game will be as gory as the earlier entries judging by this cinematic, but this is something the game’s own title makes clear too…

Also, by this cinematic we know that Gungrave G.O.R.E will bring back characters from past games like Bunji Kugashira, who will get a chance to fight his rival Grave once again.

And the game will feature new enemies “with the power to evolve and transform into Superior versions of themselves” according to the PlayStation blog.

One of these is Jensen, who is a boss of the Raven Clan (the Hong Kong branch of it actually). While scant details are known about Gungrave G.O.R.E’s story right now, we do know that the Raven Clan is a criminal organization whose aim is to control humanity via the use of the “SEED” drug.

Also, several boss enemies in Gungrave G.O.R.E have been designed by none other than Ikumi Nakamura, a Japanese artist who was previously game director for Ghostwire: Tokyo and has worked on games like Bayonetta too.

You can catch a glimpse of Jensen at around the 1:30 mark in the video above. A martial artist who prefers close combat, he will surely pose a challenge for Grave, who prefers to attack enemies at a range with his pistols.

There’s also the fact that while previous Gungrave games have been released mainly on PlayStation, the upcoming Gungrave G.O.R.E will be a multiplatform game. Aside from hitting the PS4 and PS5, it will also come out on PC, a well as Xbox consoles (Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S). No release date has been specified yet, but Gungrave G.O.R.E is expected to hit shelves at some point in 2022.

Koch Media label Prime Matter will be publishing Gungrave G.O.R.E on PC, and has called the game “the ultimate resurrection of the Gungrave franchise for veteran gunslingers and Gungrave fans, but also a gloriously gory standalone story experience”.

Here’s hoping that the game lives up to the hype, then, and that Gungrave fans and newcomers to the series can have a blast when Gungrave G.O.R.E is released sometime next year.
