Fighting games have remained popular over the years, and any gamer worth his salt knows about Bandai Namco’s Tekken series. Tekken may have played second fiddle to Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat over the years, but last year’s Tekken 8 certainly was a bona fide fighting game – arguably better than the latest Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat entries according to some game critics (the game boasts an impressive 90 score on Metacritic).
Of course, like rival games, Tekken 8 features a colorful roster of characters to play as. And Japanese publisher Bandai Namco will be adding more fighters to the game this year as part of Tekken 8’s season two.
One of these characters should get long time fans excited, as this is none other than Anna Williams, the Irish combatant who’s appeared in almost every Tekken game since the series debuted in 1994.
Anna Williams is seen in her trademark red dress in the gameplay trailer below, in which she fights a variety of opponents, including her longtime rival Nina Williams.
The “Scarlet Lighting” (as she’s known in the Tekken universe) has had an adversarial relationship with her sister Nina since the beginning. She tried to convince Nina to abandon her career as an assassin after she had a bout of amnesia (after both were put in cryosleep for 15 years) in a convoluted plot twist in an earlier Tekken game… Nina has also gotten the upper hand in almost every single tournament encounter in Tekken’s story, and was also responsible for killing Anna’s fiancé in the previous game in the series, so Anna’s desire for revenge is very real.
Anna does get the better of her sister Nina in the trailer (her bazooka hitting harder than Nina’s bullets it seems), so she’ll certainly be a nice addition to Tekken 8 come April 5, when Bandai Namco will put out this DLC character for the game.
As stated earlier, Anna Williams is part of Tekken 8’s season 2 pass. This includes several new characters for the game as Bandai Namco explains on its website, amongst which is a wholly original addition to the series’ roster. Presumably, though, you’ll also be able to get Anna Williams as a standalone DLC character. The likes of Heihashi Mishima and crossover character Clive Rosfield (from Final Fantasy XVI), plus other DLC characters are available to buy standalone on Steam and other platforms.
Fans of the Tekken series who are still playing Tekken 8 have Anna Williams and the other upcoming characters to look forward to then, even if it’s pretty obvious that another entry in the series (Tekken 9) will almost certainly be coming our way in the not too distant future…
